This dish is of the Qing dynasty, Guangxu (1875-1908) period and bears the correct mark of its period. The glaze is thin and the blue cobalt decoration is of a clear and bright blue of a high quality. The calligraphy of the mark is similar to the one seen on many excellent Kangxi period copies made during this period. By studying this beautiful piece it is easy to realize how close the porcelain of this late period is to the wares of the Yongzheng and Kangxi periods. It is also easy to imagine how difficult it would have been to see the difference between this dish and earlier pieces, had it not carried its correct mark.
The dish is hand painted underglaze blue and white decoration of five stylized lotus flowers. The diameter is about 5 ½ inches. There is one small rim frit.
